With strapless wedding gowns having been the go-to style for years, we were pleasantly surprised by the reemergence of sleeves. Of course we can’t deny our love for fabulous strapless dresses, but it’s always nice to have a fresh splash on the fashion scene.
Sleeves, in particular cap sleeves, have found their way back into the hearts of brides. Instead of having a reputation for being conservative and unsightly, modern day sleeves have added an unexpected canvas for intricate detailing and pops of sparkle.
The majority of cap sleeve wedding gowns we’ve seen lately act almost as shoulder/arm jewelry. These sleeves are instant eye catchers, but wearers must be careful not to over accessorize with other jewelry, as it may clash. If you’re sporting heavily embellished sleeves, go for simple studded earrings and consider skipping the necklace. Lace cap sleeves, on the other hand, are much more delicate and can be paired with a wide variety of adornments, like chandelier earrings or bold jewels.
Still, many brides enjoy the cap sleeve for more practical, less fashion-oriented reasons. There’s nothing wrong with wanting a little coverage, and don’t let anyone tell you differently! Cap sleeves are a nice compromise between a strapless dress and a full-sleeve gown.
High-profile designers like Reem Acra and Claire Pettibone have pushed the cap sleeve design even further onto the fashion map in recent collections, so we’ll be curious to see how long the trend sticks around!
