Our Favorite Things About Fall Weddings in New England

Considering a fall wedding date? We asked a few of our wedding venues’ staff members what they love about fall weddings in New England.

Senior Production Manager Hillary loves when her couples incorporate fall details into their weddings:

“My favorite thing about fall weddings are the fun details couples can incorporate from cozy blanket throws for guests during the ceremony, to candy apple favors, and white pumpkins for décor. I also love photos with fall foliage. Saphire Estate, The Villa, and Avenir are beautiful for photos as trees surround us.”

Indoor & Outdoor Venue Options

Outdoor fall ceremonies can be so romantic, magical, and fabulous! Just imagine getting married with vibrant autumn leaves, stunning floral arrangements, and cool pumpkin decorations. Saphire Event Group properties offer outdoor ceremony spaces that can be decorated to fit your wedding theme.

Adding some leaves and flowers to the beautiful pergolas or lining your aisle with pumpkins will change your outdoor ceremony from wow to jaw-dropping. Fall is the perfect time to use nature’s backdrop to your advantage.

When venue hunting, there are many key factors to consider—what does the ballroom look like? Can it fit all of your guests? Is it within your budget? But another important thing to keep in mind, especially with the fickle New England weather, is that you want your venue’s indoor ceremony option to be as picture-perfect and unique as their outdoor ceremony space.

Be sure to ask about options for taking interior photos if inclement weather makes outdoor pics impossible. Luckily for us, all of the Saphire Event Group properties offer indoor and outdoor ceremony choices that are both functional and visually appealing!

Pros & Cons of Fall Weddings in New England

Pros:

  • Décor is easy but can also be easily differentiated. You can range from rustic and subtle to bright fall colors!
  • There are so many great seasonal flavors for cakes and cupcakes
  • Favors are easy and fun, ranging from fall candy to caramel apples

Cons:

  • Weather plays a significant role as it can be challenging based on if it is a hot or cold fall
  • It is a peak wedding season, so dates book fast, and couples might find that they have other friends and family getting married around the same time. Booking early and sending Save the Dates about a year in advance may avoid issues like this.

FAQs About Fall Weddings

Are fall wedding dates popular in New England?

September through November in New England is one of the most popular times to get married. Couples love fall foliage as it gives some added color to the landscaping. Couples will typically see savings by moving into November, which is still the fall season with foliage but not paying the high premiums.

What are some misconceptions about fall weddings?

A popular misconception for fall weddings would be the foliage. Most people think that if they do an early September wedding, they will get foliage. You will need to go later to get all those beautiful fall colors. Couples also tend to think it’s the offseason; however, fall is the most popular time of the year to get married.

How far in advance would I need to book with you for a fall date?

We would recommend planning at least 15 months out to get a fall date. If you plan to have a Saturday evening fall wedding, we recommend at least two years in advance as Saturday evenings are always the first to book.

What do you think about weekday fall weddings?

Weekday weddings are great for savings! Booking a Thursday to a long weekend holiday such as Labor Day, Columbus Day, and even Veteran’s Day are very popular. Holiday Mondays are great too! Couples can do a wedding weekend full of festivities, all leading up to the Monday wedding.

Just think, the fall foliage and gardens will look the same on a Thursday versus a Saturday; nothing changes other than saving a bunch of money!
