This week we’re flipping things upside down and giving you some “DON’T DO IT” advice. Some of the most crown-worthy wedding blunders are brewed from the chosen wedding music. It’s easy to say the DJ is to blame, but c’mon…really? You’re the bride. We know you (and your love!) spent hours handpicking the perfect song for your first dance. Maybe you were too caught up in the music to actually hear the lyrics. It’s okay; we all make mistakes. Let’s just hope you haven’t made the mistake in public yet. Call your DJ ASAP. We’re going to save you from choosing one of the worst wedding songs possible.
The list is in no particular order. Each song is equally horrible.
1. Every Breath You Take- The Police
Well it seems like this song hit every critic out there the wrong way. As the #1 voted worst wedding song of all time, it would have been a crime to exclude this little ditty from our list. Who on earth wants to shuffle their newlywed feet to a song written from the viewpoint of a stalker?
2. When a Man Loves a Woman- Michael Bolton
Put simply, this song is about a man loving a witch of woman. We’re hoping these lyrics are difficult to relate to.
3. My Heart Will Go On- Celine Dion
Don’t try to convince yourself otherwise. The only thing people will be thinking of when you play this song is the sinking Titanic. Thoughts of death at wedding? Not exactly what we’d call picturesque.
4. I Will Always Love You: Whitney Houston
The romanticism of breakups sometimes makes it difficult to differentiate between a happy and sad love song. Rest assured this isn’t the marriage kickoff song you’re looking for. Whitney is crooning about leaving her man so she won’t stand in his way.
5. Nothing Compares To You: Sinead O’Connor/Prince
The sentiment is sweet, but have you listened to the lyrics? Play this and you’ll be dancing along to a song sung from the lungs of a deeply depressed woman.
6. One- U2
To quote the song, “We’re one, but we’re not the same. We hurt each other, and we do it again.” Enough said.
7. Wonderful Tonight: Eric Clapton
In case you didn’t know, this song is referring to a drunken Eric Clapton being put to bed by his lady after a night of partying. The song starts out sober, but by the end “You look wonderful tonight” is slurred.
